Geocache Description:

About SideTracked

We have Motorway Mayhem. We have A-Road Anarchy (cos there aren’t many motorways in Wales!). But what about public transport users? SideTracked Caches are intended to provide quick cache-and-dashes at train stations. They should be placed where it will not cause alarm, as in this day and age, public transport is under greater scrutiny than ever before.

For more information on SideTracked Caches, please visit the
SideTracked website.

Local information

Charlbury is situated 15 miles north west of Oxford in the beautiful Evenlode Valley, surrounded by glorious Cotswold countryside and the historic towns of Woodstock, Burford and Chipping Norton. Charlbury is a small market town, typical of the Cotswolds, with its colourful cottage gardens and houses built of local materials.

To the south west of Charlbury lies the remainder of the ancient Wychwood Forest, part of which now makes up the estate of Cornbury Park. Monarchs once exercised their exclusive hunting rights in the forest. Today, deer and other wildlife can still be spotted from public footpaths that border the Park. The coming of the railway in 1853 put new life into the market town. Charlbury still has its picturesque station, the design of which is linked to Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Regular trains link the town to London, Reading, Oxford and west to Hereford and Worcester. There is a ticket office at the station but has limited opening times.

Today, Charlbury lends itself to gentle strolls past buildings and features of historic interest. Footpaths in the surrounding area offer walks through stunning scenery, all within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The quiet country lanes and roads in the Wychwood area are also popular with cyclists and horse riders.

For more information visit the Charlbury web site.

Cache information

If you have come by car, the station is Pay & Display but there is free parking on the edge of Charlbury next to some houses. Be careful how you park as the street narrows and buses need to pass. It is only a short walk to the cache from there and you get a good view of Charlbury walking back to your car.

If you have geokids with you, please be mindful that you are next to a road. You are looking for a 35mm film case.

Please be careful not to drop the case down the bank
