Geocache Description:

Regular sized container with lots of swag and goodies.

Note: This cache is not at the listed coordinates and will take quite some time and effort to find.

Everyone who knows me knows that I am a Geocacher. These people's responses vary from amazement to disinterest. I have converted some of them over to cache fanatics and some will probably never cache.

Billy was one of the dispassionate types. In fact he issued a challenge.

"I will start caching when you make a 40 stage multi-cache."

Well here you go Billy, get to caching.

For those of you who could care less about Billy and just want a heck of a challenge, this is your cache.

The Historic 40 Stage Multi-Cache

I decided to make this cache a historical theme and my wife concurred that was a great idea. Most of the stages of this cache are nearby California State Historical Landmarks in Kern County or near some other historical point of interest. Of course I couldn't take the clues to this multi off of the landmarks as their pictures are on the web and you could probably complete the cache from your computer. That wouldn't be any fun!

As a result, I traveled about the county finding numbers next to the historical sites of Kern County! This cache will require some math skills. Start with the number 683.

Each stage asks you to find a number nearby the historic point of interest. Take that number and follow the mathmatical directions. After you have found 39 stages, your final 15 digit number can be converted into the coordinates of the final stage. N AB° CD.EFG W HIJ° KL.MNO

I have created a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet for you to plug your numbers in as you go and I can e-mail it to you on request. Even better yet is you can view and save a copy of the spreadsheet on Google Sheets by clicking this link here.

You can complete the stages in any order you want and there are no actual containers to find along the way. I did this so a stage could not get muggled and then the entire multi is ruined. If the numbers do get muggled, it sould not be that hard for me to find a subsitute and continue the multi in a short span of time. Additionally, many of this points of interest already have Geocaches at the sites, nearby, or on the way. I would highly recommend you cache as you go!

I have also discovered that Waymarking is wonderful additional resource while out searching for these historical markers. I also used this opportunity to create Waymarks at some of the markers that did not already have one. Take pictures of yourself as you complete this multi and you can claim many of these Waymarks as you are caching. Nearest Waymarks from the Kern County Museum

Additionally, please feel free to log your finds as you go by using "write note". Half of the fun of caching is making logs to remind you of where you have been and what you have done. Simply log everything you find in a given day with the "write note" log and number them using the number of the stage.

I have created three prizes for the first three finders. If you are individual cachers caching as a group, please split the FTF prize and leave the STF and TTF prizes for the next cachers.

First To Find Prize: $50 Gift Certificate to Ten Percent Firearms - Congrats to BAKO1313 and Hedge for FTF!
Second to Find Prize: $20 Gift Certificate to Ten Percent Firearms - Congrats to klharmon for the STF!
Third to Find Prize: $10 Gift Certificate to Ten Percent Firearms - Congrats to rallye & rallyejo for the TTF!

Good luck and happy caching.
