The co-ordinates above are for the middle of Lasham Airfield, which was built in 1942 to the standard 3 runway layout. Originally the airfield was much bigger than at present, with airfield facilities, aircraft dispersals, offices and living quarters spread throughout the surrounding woods and farmland. Clear evidence of this can be seen to the North and South-East.
Lasham played a major role during the second half of WW2, in particular (with its proximity to the south coast), during the period running up to D-Day.
Lasham is now home to Lasham Gliding Society, one of the major Gliding clubs in both England and the World, and to ATC Lasham an Airline Engineering and Maintenance business. Recently Lasham has become the temporary home to many Aircraft that once belonged to the now defunct airlines Zoom, XL.com, BMI Baby and several others.
The Cache itself is not at the co-ordinates at the top of the page, nor anywhere on Lasham Airfield, which is private property and a potentially hazardous environment with aircraft taking off and landing and high speed cables launching gliders.
