Geocache Description:

This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. Its a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too.

Alternatively there is an attractive 5 mile walk along the seawall between North Fambridge and Althorne in addition to the "Althorne Pub Walk", another 5 mile walk published by the Essex & South Suffolk Rail Partnership. http://www.esscrp.org.uk/pub/17.pdf Take care at the level crossing by the station entrance as there are no barriers. Althorne Station is an unmanned station on the Crouch Valley Line (formerly the Southminster Branch line), a single tracked branch line running between Wickford and Southminster. The village of Althorne itself about half a mile north of the station, sandwiched between the Burnham Roads of the B1010 & B1018. The village takes it's name from the Old English æled ('burnt') and thorn ('thorn-tree') and it's earliest known recording is in 1198 as Aledhorn.
