The most prominent peak of the Polhov Gradec mountain range, 1 hour walk in one direction.
Several attractive and accessible peaks in the Polhov Gradec mountain range (Polhograjski Dolomiti) make a popular destination for afternoon or one day hikes to citizens of Ljubljana, being within half an hour's drive from the capital.
The most prominent among them is Tošč, with its 1021 m above sea level makes the second highest peak of the range (after Pasja Ravan, just few metres higher but less interesting for hikers). It is accessible from multiple directions, each showing a different face, and hikes range from one hour to several hours in one direction. A book "Izleti po ljubljanski okolici" by Andrej Stritar lists six popular approaches.
Perhaps the gentlest and shortest approach (320 m elevation change) is from the West, starting from a church of Sv. Jedrt near Selo nad Polhovim Gradcem. Selo is reachable by road either from Polhov Gradec (a logical choice for visitors from Ljubljana), or from Škofja Loka (for visitors from Gorenjska).
To reach Selo from Polhov Gradec, follow the road to NW from a castle (Pristava) of Polhov Gradec for 2 km, where you keep right at an intersection maintaining the NW direction, following a stream of Mala Božna for another 3 km, than split right (wooden sign: Selo, Škofja Loka) to unpaved but well maintained road to Selo, then 200 m further on to a sharp bend where road starts descending to Škofja Loka, where a suitable and obvious parking space by a small chapel can be found, at an altitude of 700 m.
After walking for 500 m to the East you reach a small church of Sv. Jedrt (St. Gertrude). A marked trail starts right there before the church, straight uphill over a grassy slope, but soon levels off for a gentler hike through woods, all the way to the peak. It takes about one hour to reach the top from the parking area.
The path is not difficult, nevertheless hiking shoes are well recommended, as wet leaves (or snow) can be slippery. It is suitable for any season, even in winter except in high snow.
The cache is a 0.8 litre plastic container.

Polhograjsko hribovje ponuja več mikavnih in dostopnih vrhov za popoldanske in celodnevne izlete pohodnikom iz Ljubljane in okolice.
Najmarkantnejši med vrhovi je Tošč, s svojimi 1021 metri nadmorske višine je drugi najvišji vrh Polhograjcev (par metrov višja, a za izletnike manj zanimiva, je Pasja Ravan). Dostopen je iz več smeri, vsaka od njih kaže drugačno lice, vzpon pa traja od ene ure do več ur. Knjiga Andreja Stritarja "Izleti po ljubljanski okolici" opisuje šest popularnih dostopov.
Morda najbolj prijazen je dostop z zahoda s 320 m višinske razlike, ki se začne pri cerkvici Svete Jedrt blizu Sela nad Polhovim Gradcem. Selo je dostopno po makadamski cesti iz Polhovega Gradca ali iz Škofje Loke.
Do Sela pridete od graščine v Polhovem Gradcu tako, da se peljete v severozahodni smeri 2 km, kjer se na križišču držite desne in nadaljujete v isti smeri ob potoku Mala Božna še 3 km, kjer vas leseni trojni smerokaz (napis: Selo, Škofja Loka) usmeri na desno na makadamsko cesto in pripelje do Sela in še 200 m naprej do parkirišča ob kapelici (700 m n.m.), kjer lahko pustite avto, cesta pa tam zavije in se prične spuščati proti Škofji Loki.
Od kapelice 500 m proti vzhodu stoji cerkvica Svete Jedrt. Tik pred njo markirana pot skrene navkreber po travniku, a se kmalu položi in prelevi v prijetno gozdno stezo vse do vrha Tošča. Od parkirišča do vrha je ura hoda.
Pot ni težka, kljub temu so pohodni čevlji priporočljivi, saj je mokro listje (ali sneg) lahko spolzko. Dostop je primeren ob vsakem letnem času, tudi pozimi, razen v visokem snegu.
