The present church was built in 1837, replacing an older church. If
you get chance go inside the church, it has an interesting balcony
running around three sides. Recently reopened after being closed
for several months, now has disabled access. The suffragette Ethel
Smythe preached from the pulpit. In the churchyard you will find
the graves of Admiral Sturdee, the painter John Frederick Lewis,
and the American writer Bret Harte.
James Cobett the famous cricketer was born at Frimley in 1804.
and more recently Jonny Wilkinson the Rugby player, born at Frimley
Park Hospital In 1935, Daphne du Maurier wrote Jamaica Inn at
Frimley, while her soldier husband was based there.
Take a look at the house on the right this was once the Drum and
Monkey.
