Geocache Description:

This is the first location in a series of 3 that will take you on one of the most scenic walks the Colne Valley has to offer. With views to Fordham & W. Bergholt etc. The walk is circular , about 2.75 miles long and takes in a stretch of the Essex way. Allow 1hour + seeking time .

I suggest you park your car and start the walk from the Heath road car park at the end of the bridleway near Fordham heath:- See waypoint vp.

Head North to the public footpath sign (waypoint v1) .Then follow footpath towards Porters farm(waypoint v2) and from then on down to the little river bridge(waypoint v3) which brings you to the Essex Way.This way begins at Epping forest and finishes at Harwich total length 81miles but you wont have to do all that today! .You follow this untill you get to the footpath bearing off to your right (waypoint v4) follow this to Cooks Mill .From here you follow the little lane up to the footpath going through the wood (waypoint v5) this will then bring you back up to Heath road ,where you started. As an added bonus why not visit the Cricketers Public House for a well earned rest in front of their open fire.(Winter period only)
You will get Glorious views (weather permitting) on the stretch from waypoint v1 going along, and down to the little river bridge. There are in fact a couple of benches along the Essex way in order for you to rest your weary limbs or refresh yourselves.
There are more nice views from a bench in the woodland and also you can take a slight detour and visit the local pond (waypoint v6),complete with information board and viewing area.
I strongly recommend that you complete all the Colne Valley caches as the circular walk, believe me in the right weather conditions you'll be begging me for more. The main reason for setting this up is for you to enjoy one of my favorite walks in the area. Few things to note:- There are 2 stiles you have to carry your dog over, one with electric fencing either side. Dogs would have to be kept on leads, on some sections, due to livestock. The Essex way is quite muddy in places and I would strongly recommend walking boots or wellies to walk in. There are some cows en-route and if this bothers you, I would reconsider doing this walk.
The photographers amongst you will be able to have a field day with the panoramic scenery that unfolds itself. Please upload pictures for those too enjoy that cannot do this walk ,and provide a taster for those that can.
The cache is a standard plastic container with the usual goodies.

CONGRATULATIONS to Andy UK63 * First to find *
