The Long Way Home Traditional Geocache
g7guo: Unfortunately this appears to have been muggled and as it has a history of becoming exposed and partially muggled and it is no longer relevant to my life I have decided to archive it. However I will be placing a new cache nearby a bit further off the beaten track so hopefully less likely to be muggled.

On a path through a green space as an alternative to avoid the road in a semi urban environment.
This cache is on the route I used to walk to work and back most days. Slightly longer than going the road way but much more pleasant. When I bought my house near here in 1987 it was a magnificent beech wood but the gales later that year brought nearly all the trees down. If you approach the cache from the East joining the path from the road via the small green you will see a bench made from the trunk of one of the fallen trees comemorating the big clear up operation which followed the devastation. The area is gradualy recovering with new trees but not Beech which is no longer suited to the changing climate. There is ongoing maintainance which you should see evidence of as you carry on walking through to the cache. There was a plan put forward at one time for a road and housing developement through here but thankfully it was shelved due to objections by local residents. Geocachers of a similar age to me may remember the song by the band Supertramp from which the name of this cache is taken. The path by the cache is popular with dog walkers etc. so please take care to ensure you are not seen when retrieving and replacing the cache. And please replace as found with covering material.
