Mangatome: The cache has disappeared, and although there is a legal way to reach both stages, a cinema shooting will take place in the area for quite some time now. For this reason the cache is hereby archived, but I am not done with this place. [:)]

La cache a disparu, et bien que les deux étapes soient toujours accessibles légalement, un tournage de cinéma va avoir lieu dans l'enceinte du fort pour un certain temps. Pour cette raison la cache est archivée, mais je n'en ai pas fini avec cet endroit. [:)]

Fort-les-Bancs

Version Française

Dominant la combe de la Balme, la place forte de Fort-les-Bancs fût construite au 19ème siècle pour protéger le château de Pierre Chatel, situé en contrebas, des attaques prussiennes. N'ayant jamais eu à ouvrir le feu, le fort abrita des garnisons et appartient désormais aux propriétaires de Pierre Chatel. On peut néanmoins s'en approcher au plus près, puisqu'il est situé sur le passage d'un sentier de grande randonnée.

De nombreuses curiosités résident autour de ce fort. D'abord, vous verrez sur le chemin, et tout près de la cache finale, les strates de calcaires qui donnent leur nom au fort. Ensuite, le fort accueille chaque année des reconstitutions médiévales ainsi que des jeux de rôles grandeur nature, pendant quelques jours. Attention, les caches ne seront peut-être pas accessibles pendant ces périodes.

Garez-vous au point "Parking", puis continuez la route qui monte et empruntez le GR balisé en rouge et blanc (plein ouest). Suivez le chemin balisé sur plus d'un kilomètre, puis, dès que vous en voyez, suivez les panneaux "Esterel" jusqu'au waypoint principal. La micro cachée à cet endroit - public - vous dira comment atteindre la cache finale. Vous pouvez aussi continuer dans le tunnel et trouver le chemin truffé d'embuches jusqu'a l'entrée du fort.

Attention aux enfants : présence de précipices.

Overseeing the Balme area, the stronghold of "Fort-les-Bancs" (Fort-Benches) has been built during the 19th century in order to protect the castle of Pierre Chatel, located nearby, from the prussian attacks. Although it never had to open fire, the stronghold held garrisons and now belongs to the owners of Pierre Chatel. Nevertheless one can come very close to it, given that a Grande Randonnée (GR) trail lays near it.

Many trivia has to be told about it. First, you'll see on the trail, and near the final cache, the limestone strata that gave its name to the Fort. Moreover, the fort harbours every year medieval reenactments and real world role playing games, during a few days. Warning, the caches may be unavailable during this time.

Park your car at the "Parking" waypoint, then keep on following the road and take the GR trail that is landmarked with white and red bars (go to the west). Follow the trail for more than a kilometer, and, as soon as you can, follow the "Esterel" signs until the main waypoint. The micro hidden in this - public - place will tell you how to reach the final cache. You can also take the tunnel and find the path to the fort's entrance (yet irrelevant to the hunt).
