While looking over a map of Makaha I noticed there was a water
tunnel deep in the valley. I opened my trusty mapping software and
got coordinates. Those I entered into my Garmin GPSmap 60Cx,
grabbed my pack, filled it w/water and food and headed out to
locate the tunnel.
After many trips and many hours I found it. Man did I find it! I
had to slide down a muddy slope into a dark hole in the ground. As
I slid into the darkness my feet touched water. COLD WATER
and the more I slid down the deeper the water got.
Was I going to drown here, deep in this dark, damp valley? NO,
my feet touched bottom before it got over my head.
I turned on my head lamp and bend over to keep my head from
banging into the low roof of the tunnel. On and on I walked and
after a few minutes the water level began to recede until I was no
longer walking in water.
The tunnel seemed to go on and on forever; it began to curve to
the left. Would it ever end? Then all of a sudden I saw something
in the distance. What was it? It looked like threads of cloth
hanging from the roof of the tunnel.
As I got closer I saw that they now looked like old rotten
bandages and they were wrapped around a SKULL, and the skull
had eyes that glowed. Not only did they glow but the glow changed
colors. SPOOKY MAN!
I sucked in a deep damp breath and ducked under the hanging
bandages and continued deeper into the darkness. More time passed
and then the ground seemed to rise a bit and there on the crest of
the rise were two spooky things, small ugly things like guardians,
or were they something sacrificed in days gone bye?
Beyond these ugly things were more "things" just as ugly and
scary. And beyond those I saw a pumpkin hanging from a rock. I
gritted my teeth, got really brave and slowly crawled up the crest
and passed the scary things.
I reached for the pumpkin. I took it off it's hanger with
shaking hands and looked inside.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH
That's all I'm gonna say about what I found.

Ok, I'll give you some information to help you get started.
You can enter from Wai`anae Valley by hiking up the paved BWS
road and continue to the crest of the ridge between Wai`anae and
Makaha. Then you must find the right trail down into Makaha. From
there on it's you and your GPS. Good Luck.
You can also enter from Makaha, but parking is a problem. You
CAN NOT park on Kili Drive at all. From the front of the Makaha
Towers all the way to the Makaha Resort and Golf Club there is also
NO PUBLIC PARKING.
So where can you park in Makaha?
You can park down at Makaha Surf beach and catch the bus or walk
up Kili Drive.
You can park on Makaha Valley Road before the entrance to the
resort and walk to the Towers and the BWS road there.
If you have a friend who lives at the Makaha Plantations or
Towers or the HIGH RENT GATED COMMUNITY Mouna Olu they can get you
a visitors pass to park.
From the Plantations or Towers walk up the BWS road until you
reach these coordinates:
N 21 29.324
W 158 11.537
From there follow the trail and your GPS
From Mouna Olu walk from your friends house past the Kaneaki
Heiau and then follow the BWS road and your GPS.
By the way. I had a 22' accruacy reading on my Map60 w/its
external antenna.
