Geocache Description:

Terrain fairly good here. Watch out when going on to SA34 that you get the correct footpath. It is the little one in the middle of 3 paths. It is easy to miss as we did on our first visit.

The Sussex Amble is an excellent walk for those who enjoy the slightly longer than normal walk. There are 72 caches in total one of which is a bonus cache. The walk covers a variety of terrain, open countryside, deep woods, hills and dales and some of the views are amongst the best in Sussex.
The walk is mainly on public bridle ways with a couple footpaths. There are 4 minor and 1 major road to cross. Care should be taken crossing the A285 as this can be quite busy at times. There are 2 stiles to cross which are quite low but the first one is not in the best of condition.
Some of the paths are on chalk so can be slippery in wet weather. In common with many routes some areas will be wet and muddy especially after a period of heavy rain so wear good walking boots. Nettles are generally not a problem but watch out when delving in to find the cache as there are one or two areas where the are silently waiting. We use Afterbite to neutralize stings immediately if attacked. There is one pub on route (Heyshott) and there are a few benches to rest on if required. The walk is quite long so make sure that you have spare GPSr batteries and food for the journey. A torch may also be handy in the winter months.
Most of the caches are large screwtop micros (sorry) with a few kliplock boxes scattered around.
Suggested parking is close to cache 1 near to the Glatting beacons. Other access points are available if you are not planning on doing the walk in one hit. We have done the walk two times and on both occasions completed it in one day but arrived at the finishing post after sunset. (October). Some I'm sure will finish it a lot quicker.
If in doubt about any thing please contact us.
Mike and Christine.
