Geocache Description:

The above Co-ordinates are for the main car park. There is nothing hidden at this location. This cache is one of a series of four caches hidden in Stourhead Woods. The caches can be done in any order. Due to the dense nature of the woods, a direct (on a bearing) approach may not always be possible and use should be made of the numerous paths and tracks through the woods. Mud and steep slopes may be encountered! Wellington boots are recommended.

Each cache in this series uses information from a number of sites found in the woods, to give the location of a micro cache (film canister). The micro contains the lat. and long. of an ammo box hidden in a different part of the woods. The micros and ammo boxes are hidden in or under stumps and the roots of trees.

Allow about two hours to visit all the information sites and at least an hour a cache. It may be best to visit on a number of days, rather than attempt to complete the series in one go.

In order to find the caches in this series, the following sites need to be visited: St Peter's Pump, St Peter's Pump information Board, Park Hill Camp Information Board, Alfreds Tower, Alfreds Tower Information Board and an ancient Boundary Stone.

The position of the micro in each cache will be found by answering questions using the information collected from the sites.

The caches are hidden in the woods so GPS can be a bit hit and miss. The given positions are as acurate as possible but photographs of the actual sites are included as spoilers just in case a bit of extra help is required (I bet you can do it without looking though, at least on the first attempt!).

For Don't Disturb the Neighbours:

The position of the micro is as follows:

51° 0 A . B C D North
002° 2 E . F G H West

Check Sum = 40

Where:

A = The second figure of the date on St Peter's Pump.

Find the corner of Alfred's Tower that contains the stairs (it
has windows on the outside). There is horizontal banding that
splits the tower into 4 sections.

B = The number of windows in the second section (the one above
the bottom one) minus the number of windows in the bottom
section.

C = The third figure (the decimal) of the height of Alfred's Tower.

D = The third figure of the amount that the Hoare family payed for the estate.

E = The third figure of the year that the Hoare family bought the estate.

F = The fourth figure of the year that the National Trust felled trees to conserve Park Hill Camp.

G = The number of counties marked by the boundary stone (same as the number of large cracks in it) multiplied by two.

H = The second figure of the year when Sir John Straton was granted a licence to enclose 1000 acres of land.

Use the paths and enjoy the scenery. You will find the correct route eventually. Due to some recent additions, there are now caches at most of the clue sites. Two birds with one stone!
