Geocache Description:

The above Co-ordinates are for the main car park. There is nothing hidden at this location. This cache is one of a series of four caches hidden in Stourhead Woods. The caches can be done in any order. Due to the dense nature of the woods, a direct (on a bearing) approach may not always be possible and use should be made of the numerous paths and tracks through the woods. Mud and steep slopes may be encountered! Wellington boots are recommended.

Each cache in this series uses information from a number of sites found in the woods, to give the location of a micro cache (film canister). The micro contains the lat. and long. of an ammo box hidden in a different part of the woods. The micros and ammo boxes are hidden in or under stumps and the roots of trees.

Allow about two hours to visit all the information sites and at least an hour a cache. It may be best to visit on a number of days, rather than attempt to complete the series in one go.

In order to find the caches in this series, the following sites need to be visited: St Peter's Pump, St Peter's Pump information Board, Park Hill Camp Information Board, Alfreds Tower, Alfreds Tower Information Board and an ancient Boundary Stone.

The position of the micro in each cache will be found by answering questions using the information collected from the sites.

The caches are hidden in the woods so GPS can be a bit hit and miss. The given positions are as acurate as possible but photographs of the actual sites are included as spoilers just in case a bit of extra help is required (I bet you can do it without looking though, at least on the first attempt!). .

For Nice Beech (No Towels Required) :

The position of the micro is as follows:

51° 0 A . B C D North
002° 2 E . F G H West

Check Sum = 38

Where:

A = The third figure of the date on St Peter's Pump.

B = The last figure of the year that a plane crashed into the tower.

C = The number of letters in the name of the estate farm that produces award winning organic beef.

D = The number of sides to Alfred's tower minus one.

E = The first figure of the date when when St Peter's pump was orginally constructed in Bristol

F = The second figure of the date when Alfred beat the Danes

G = The first figure of the height of the Tower in feet.

H = The last figure of the number of years of history to be found on Whitesheet Hill.

Use the paths and enjoy the scenery. You will find the correct route eventually. Due to some recent additions, there are now caches at most of the clue sites. Two birds with one stone!

NB The advice about wellingtons could be very useful depending on your approach to this cache. The path from the South can be very wet and muddy.
