Under de
första kristna århundradena stod här troligen en
träkyrka. På 1200-talet byggdes en murad
gråstenskyrka, som fick namnet St. Peder.
Detta var en sockenkyrka, men den lydde under det
närbelägna Börringekloster, som var ett nunnekloster
tillhörande benediktinorden.
Kyrkan revs på 1780-talet efter en tids förfall. Det
enda som syns ovan mark idag är delar av tornet.
Träkorset står vid platsen för altaret, och i
markläge däremellan kan man se en gravsten som flyttades
hit när klosterkyrkan revs på 1500-talet. Vid
utgrävningen 1975 hittades även en stenkista med
två skelett som antagligen hörde ihop med stenen.
During the first
centuries of Christianity a wooden church probably stood on this
site. In the 13th century a church was built of blocks of granite
cemented together.
This was a parish church, but it belonged to the nearby
Börringe Convent of Benedictine nuns.
The church was torn down in the 1780s after a long period of
decay. Nowadays only a part of the steeple is visible above ground.
The wooden cross marks the place of the old altar, and in the
middle of the church at ground-level you can see an old tombstone
that was moved here from the convent in the 1500s.
This church was replaced in 1787 by the present Börringe
church.
