Geocache Description:

"A commemorative stone monument, carved from white marble in the form of an obelisk, it was built on a granite outcrop on the edge of the former Roman-mediaeval road which linked Évora and Alcácer do Sal on land belonging to Mitra (currently one of the sites of the University of Évora). The popular name would come from ornamentation at the top of the monument in the form of a pinecone, an ancient symbol of abundance and concord. On the socle (plinth) is engraved in classical lettering the date 6th August 1792. Although this is the date that King João VI assumed the regency because his mother was incapacitated, the circumstances of the building of the monument and the occasion if celebrates are unknown."
