Een wandeling van 1,5 kilometer door Het Park in Rotterdam.
Deze wandeling blikt terug op de 150-jarige historie van Het Park.
De logrol is klein, toch is er in de stash plek voor platte TB's met een ringetje. Neem zelf een pen mee.
A 1.5 kilometre walk through Het Park in Rotterdam. This walk is a look-back at the 150-year history of Het Park. The log is small, but there is enough room in the stash for flat Travel Bugs and ringed coins.
Het Park in Rotterdam is een echt stadspark. Zo was het bij de aanleg 150 jaar geleden bedoeld en zo is het nog steeds. Al in de negentiende eeuw kwam de gegoede burgerij, maar ook de gewone Rotterdammer, hier om te wandelen, te verpozen en naar muziek te luisteren.
Tuinarchitect Jan David Zocher en zijn zoon Louis Paul Zocher ontwierpen tussen 1852 en 1863 Het Park in de toen geliefde landschapsstijl. Zij bootsten het natuurlijke landschap na door middel van glooiingen, slingerende paden, kronkelige vijvers en monumentale boomgroepen. Lopend over de slingerende paden ervoer de negentiende-eeuwse wandelaar de afwisseling tussen dichte beplanting, open ruimten en spannende doorzichten. De zichtlijnen vielen op gebouwen, beelden, bruggen en boomgroepen.
Er is nog verrassend veel over van het oorspronkelijke ontwerp en er staan nog veel bomen uit de 19de eeuw. In de loop der tijd zijn echter zichtlijnen vervaagd en boomgroepen uiteen gevallen. Het Park heeft nu een beschermde status gekregen, het is namelijk aangewezen als rijksmonument. De gemeente Rotterdam gaat zoveel mogelijk herstellen volgens het oorspronkelijke ontwerp van Zocher. Daarnaast moet Het Park vooral volop gebruikt kunnen blijven worden, nu en in de toekomst. Om te wandelen, te skaten, te barbecuen en natuurlijk voor de diverse festivals die hier gehouden worden.

Je start je wandeling voor de uitspanning Harbour Club (voorheen Parkzicht). Hier kun je ook betaald parkeren.
Parkzicht is in 1912 gebouwd als tweede officierensociëteit van de Schutterij. Het eerste sociëteitsgebouw dateerde uit 1853 en vormde het middelpunt in Zochers aanleg: hier kwamen de routes en zichtlijnen samen.

WP3. Dit werd in 1860 onthuld. Op deze plek hield een klein groepje kunstenaars in 1977 tijdens de openingsdag van Poetry International voordrachten. Dit groeide uit tot Poetry in Het Park en later tot het grootschalige Dunya Festival.

WP5. Eind 19de eeuw werd hier de dijk verhoogd en een promenade aangelegd met prachtig uitzicht op de Maas, toen de Bult van de Jongh genoemd. Aan de overkant ligt het voormalige schip van de Holland Americalijn, de SS Rotterdam, afgemeerd.
Tel het aantal treden van de trap richting het water. Neem vervolgens het laatste cijfer van dit getal en vermenigvuldig dit met 10. Tel dit getal bij je laatste N-coördinaat op en je krijgt:

WP7. Het Heerenhuys heette rond 1800 de Heuvel, één van de twee buitenplaatsen waaruit Het Park is ontstaan. De Oud-Hollandse tuin voor het huis werd tijdens de Floriade aangelegd. Het ernaast gelegen koetshuis hoorde bij de Heuvel.
Ga met je rug naar de vijver staan en tel het aantal luiken. Vermenigvuldig dit met 3 en haal hier weer 5 vanaf. Trek vervolgens dit getal van je laatste N-coördinaat af.

Landscape architect Jan David Zocher and his son Louis Paul Zocher designed Het Park between 1852 and 1863 Het Park in the landscape style popular at the time. They imitated a natural landscape by means of undulating slopes, winding paths, serpentine ponds and monumental clumps of trees. Strolling along the winding paths, the 19th-cdntury visitor would have experienced the variation between close planting, open spaces and exciting vistas. The sight lines rested on buildings, statues, bridges and clumps of trees.
An amazingly large amount of the original design remains and there are still many trees dating back to the 19th century. Through time, however, some sight lines have become blurred and clumps of trees dispersed. Het Park now enjoys protected status; it has been designated a national monument. The municipality of Rotterdam plans to restore as much as possible according to Zocher’s original design. In addition, the main thing is that Het Park continues to be used to the full, both now and in the future. For walking, skating, barbecuing and, of course, for the various festivals held here.

You start your walk in front of the cafe Harbour Club (former named ‘Parkzicht’). There is also paid parking here.
‘Parkzicht’ was built in 1912 as second officers’ club for the Militia. The fist club building dated back to 1853 and formed the centrepiece in Zocher’s design: this is where the routes and sight lines converged.

WP7. In about 1880, ‘Het Heerenhuys’ was known as ‘De Heuvel’ , one of the two country estates from which Het Park was created. The traditional Dutch garden in front of the house was laid during the Floriade. The adjoining coach house belonged to De Heuvel.
Stand with your back to the lake and count the number of shutters. Multiply this by 3 and then take away 5. Deduct this number from your last N coordinate.
