This cache has been archived.

Sapience Trek: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

This cache requires several things and requires that you have no fear of the water or are willing to try to find it anyways

Today I finally got around to placing a cache that I have been wanting to set. I have had the container ready for some time but needed some help in placing it and testing it out to make sure that it was do-able even by the most basic swimmer. You see as you probably aready noticed from my name, I am a diver. I have little or no fear of being under the water and have spent my entire life on and around Skaneateles Lake. Being a water baby has it's advantages. Because my husband has a fear of the water over his head ,I made sure that our children could swim as well as anyone and would love the water. Now don't get me wrong. My husband loves the water, as long as it is under him. He loves to boat and is an avid kayaker. We own several boats of differing discriptions. He even snorkles. But only on the surface. He told me once that if he could do one thing over it would be to have had his parents make sure that after a fall into a pool that almost drown him and another episode of falling thru the ice into Bear Swamp Creek while cutting a Christmas tree, that they made sure that he got over the fear of being in the water over his head. Oh well we have been together for 40 years and I have known him longer than that, so I guess we have grown to accept his limitations. We work around them and do all right.
So as for the cache. This is what you must do. You will have to find an access point to get into the water. The closest would be: Pirates Treasure at Glen Cove. Then you must paddle or motor your way to the coordinates. That is the easy part. Then you will need to locate the cache that is under water. You will have to have a mask at the least. Snorkle would be a big help and a pair of fins would make it very easy. What you will find is a small cement block on the bottom of the lake in aprox 7' of water. You cannot get the cache with your feet. It is D- ring attached to the block on a cable. You will have to swim down and unclip it and bring it up to the surface. It might be full of water but the log is in a film container and all the swag not effected by the water. Please sign the log. You cannot log this find unless you sign the log and when I check it (and belive me I will) I will delete any that do not sign the log. Then place the log back into the film container and place it in the cache container and then return it to the bottom of the lake. Sounds pretty simple to me, But if you have a fear of the water then you should be aware that just becuase this cache is placed for you to find, you do not have to attempt it. Please make sure someone is aware that this is what you are going to do. Leave a plan with someone in case you do not come back in a timely fashion. Cell service is scattered on the lake depending on who you carrier is. There is a launch fee at the marina for parking your car and launching your boat. That includes kayaks. Please don't get me in trouble with the owners for not paying at the little green building by the launch ramp I am looking forward to seeing who it FTF. I know several that will be by to give it a try. Have Fun but be Safe. Why not bring a friend and share the fun. Oh and you might want to bring along something to turn open the container. We have placed a bolt thru the cover and that is why it might be full of water. This is a test model to see if this turns out to be popular. If I get several finds and good reviews I intend to place several on this lake. Let me know what you think.

Bing with you: a Boat(a canoe or kayak is fine),fee for parking around ($7-$10.?), a set of snorkel gear and something to open the container, and a towel to dry off with. Don't forget a rope to tie off you boat with while you dive for the cache. there is a tree near by that you can use to tie off to. Wear shoes so you don't get cut on the zebra mussles!

I am getting lots of questions and feedback on this cache. Thanks a lot. Ideas are always welcome.

Happy Caching!
