Geocache Description:

Micro containing log sheet. Bring your own pencil.

This little cemetery outside Heidelberg is well worth a visit. It contains numerous war graves from both the British and Boer sides. It has the distinction of having the grave of the last man shot in the Boer war (1899-1902). This was Salmon van As who was executed for shooting Major Miers of the Somerset Light Infantry. Both men are buried here. If you do the cache "Armor Car" (GC11K32) the bullet holes are still visible in the wall of the jail where van As was executed. The Afrikaans poet A.G Visser is also buried in this cemetery. His house and museum "Visserman" (GC11K2X) are in town. Although the terrain is flat and should be wheelchair accessible, it is very sandy which could make the going difficult in parts. Congratulations to keithlan for the FTF.
