ALL SAINTS, SANDERSTEAD
Another contribution to this series, started by

The original church was built in 1230 in the reign of Henry III.
The tower was added in 1310, and the church was partly rebuilt in
1828 and 1832, when all of the windows were replaced. The porch was
added in 1903. Inside the church there is a marble tomb of Mary
Audley who died in 1655 and this is considered to be one of the
finest in Surrey. There are two mediaeval wall paintings thought to
date from the early 14th century.
Alongside the church is the village pond which has been there for
hundred of years and was used by drovers for their cattle and
sheep. Today it is home to much wildlife who would appreciate some
bread.
In the churchyard look for Doris and Basil’s children:
Will 18AB-197C, Doris 18DE-1978, Phyl 189F-1999, Jack
1904-197G.

just ask that you contact sadexploration first so he can keep track
of the Church numbers and names and to avoid duplication.
