Geocache Description:

ST LUKES, WHYTELEAFE

Another contribution to this series, started by sadexploration

The village of Whyteleafe probably got it’s name from the white underside of the leaves of the whitebeam trees which grow on the surrounding hills. The village started growing once the railway came in 1856, with St Luke's Church being consecrated 10 years later in 1866.

In the churchyard you can find graves of airman from Kenley Airfield, one of the Battle of Britain airfields, which is just up the hill from the church. You often see gliders overhead, which are the only planes which fly from Kenley Airfield these days.

This is a very simple multi, you can park by the church then find the clues to give you the final cache location which is a short walk away.

Go towards the end of the graveyard to the war graves and find:

If anybody would like to expand this series please do. We would just ask that you contact sadexploration first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names and to avoid duplication.
