Dartmoor Tales - The Pigs of Merripit Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

DizzyCacher: As other life events have overtaken my geocaching time I won’t realistically be able to get to this one to check it so regrettably have decided to archive.

Geocache Description:

Traditional cache at the top of Merripit Hill. Whilst there's nothing much of interest on the hill you will get a a panoramic view of the area. There are a few small parking areas off the road after leaving Postbridge.

The ghostly pigs of Merripit are said to be a sow and her piglets who are starving. They leave Merripit for Cator Gate after hearing there is a dead horse there beside the road. As they set off the piglets can be heard crying 'starving, starving'. When they arrive at Cator the dead horse has been picked clean by crows and all that's left is a pile of bones. The little pigs can be heard squealing 'skin and bones, skin and bones' as they make their way back to Merripit, still hungry.

Stand still on top of the hill, is that the wind blowing or did you hear the pigs squealing?
