ST AGATHA, WOLDINGHAM
Another contribution to this series, started by sadexploration
St Agatha’s church is on a site which has had a church for many hundred of years. The present church replaced the former church in 1832.
It is one of the smallest churches in the country and measures externally without the porch only 30 ft. 3 in. by 20 ft. 2 in and seats just 40 people, but it served as Parish Church of Woldingham until 1934 and is still in regular use - and it's churchyard with a 900 year old yew tree (and Millennium yew sapling) plus 800 year old ash is still the parish churchyard
It was restored in 1889 by Sir Walpole Greenwell. There are stained glass windows presented in 1994 by Septimus Waugh entitled ‘Christ the Healer’ in memory of Dr Tertius Watson, a local homeopath.
This is a very simple multi, you can park in the car park just beyond the church then find the clues to give you the final cache location which is a short walk away.
Look for the celtic cross gravestone of the Vine family.
John Edward died 10th October ABCD. Gertrude Alice died 3rd August EFGH

If anybody would like to expand this series please do. We would just ask that you contact sadexploration first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names and to avoid duplication.

When I'm out caching I carry a supply of replacement log sheets so that I can help out the cache owner by carrying out any maintenance that's required.
If anybody would like to replace any logs that need urgent servicing in my caches, please do so and mention it in your log. |
