Geocache Description:

This is the oldest active geocache in Asia (see Related Web Page above), but it is not the first cache ever on Okinawa. It is Okinawa's first cache revisited and maintained!

Come prepared for a steep climb and don't forget gloves, sturdy shoes and bug spray, shorts are not recommended. It is recommended to go around Low Tide, give or take a couple hours.

Even if your little ones can't make it to the cache, this is still a nice area to take a walk, go running, or just spend some time relaxing. So brings the kids, walk the dog. Pack a picnic and stop along the trail for lunch. The location is also popular with divers and swimmers with caves to explore from both the ocean side and from the land side.

Park at the Maeda Point parking lot and follow the paths to get started. At the parking lot, go along the trail following the SCUBA divers. When the divers start hiking down the stairs, stay right and follow the path past the building. The path continues on straight, but if you walk around the trees there is a narrow road. Follow that road to the apartment building. Follow the trail that starts up again at the apartment building. Take that path all the way till you see a cave-like path through the trees on the left. Watch your step down this path, especially if it's wet. I do not recommend taking toddler or very young children any farther, there are places on this trail that you will need to use both hands to hold on to ropes or climb on coral. Once you find the search area, you will need to climb, and the children will not be able to join you unless you give them a lot of assistance. At the cache location, you will be up inside, but you will have a view of the sky (obstructed only by tree like bushes) but your GPS signal will be reduced due to the high cliff face right next to you.

The container is covered so look sharp. Read the spoiler for more info. If you can not find this cache please log a DNF Did Not Find so we can check on it.

Joseph said this would be one of many caches in Okinawa... How right he was!

There are a lot of good pictures in the gallery from years past, but keep in mind this cache has moved due to tide & erosion of the rocks supporting the first location, so pay more attention to the pictures posted on the page itself

History lesson:

Originally started by Joseph Eaton, and in the same area, but moved slightly by Sojournen. It has been maintained by several local cachers. Originally this cache was a 1/1 but Sojournen moved the cache to a more difficult area.

Thanks to the great cachers who help maintain this epic hide throughout the years..
