Geocache Description:

A stand alone micro near one of the York City wall's gate houses.

York's Medievil wall surrounds most of the old city. However there is a significant gap. The gap between Layerthorpe Bridge and the Red Tower was originally marshland or the King's Fishpool, in the days when even freshwater fish was a luxury. No wall was ever built on this stretch. The Red Tower of 1490 (but much restored) is the only substantial brick-built part of the wall. A good site to visit if you wish to incorporate this cache in a walk is (visit link)
