De geschiedenis van het dit kasteel gaat terug tot 1304, toen het riddergeslacht Wilre een kleine burcht liet bouwen. De burcht kreeg bekendheid toen Pieter Paul Rubens het in 1635 aankocht en het feodaal slot liet ombouwen tot een kasteel in Vlaamse Renaissance-stijl. Na zijn dood in 1640 bleef zijn tweede echtgenote, Helena Fourment, er wonen. Het kasteel werd omgedoopt tot het Rubenskasteel. In 1792 werd het kasteel omgedoopt tot staatsgevangenis. Het is sinds 1948 een beschermd monument en momenteel kan je het afhuren voor al je feestjes.
Sommige stukken kunnen heel modderig zijn! Als je wil fietsen, neem dan zeker de mountainbike. Gelieve de paadjes te volgen, enkel bij het zoeken naar de stash dien je het pad te verlaten.
Parkeren kan je aan WP1. Hier is er ook de mogelijkheid om te picknicken.

The origin of "Het Steen" goes back to the Middle ages. The painter Pieter Paul Rubens lived in this castle from 1635. He bought the castle for his second wife Helena Fourmont. It was then that the castle was renamed into Rubenskasteel.
Some parts can be very muddy. When you want to take the bike than you need an all-round bicycle. Please follow the paths, only to find the stash you have to leave the path.
