Geocache Description:

Baker county high altitude cache at 6112'. If solitude is the order of the day then this cache may be for you. The local pack station advertises their services by adding that you'll probably never see another human on the way to the Lakes and back.

Some of the richest mines east of the Cascades were near the town of Cornucopia. More gold may have been found near here if World War II had never happened. Pine Lakes trailhead begins not far from the Cornucopia sign. Take note of the coordinates courtesy of LiefPhotos. The trail starts by following an old mining road as it parallels Pine creek. The trail crosses the creek several times, but not all have bridges. On the way to the cache you'll visit a waterfall and see several others in the distance. Perhaps most stunning of all is a nearly 180 degree view of Cornucopia Peak.

The last couple hundred feet are above the trail and shouldn't be attempted by small children. The shale rock is loose and unpredictable. Search until you come up with the camo-painted ammo box. It's placed a short distance from the Eagle Cap wilderness boundary.. anything closer to the lakes would not be published. Total hike is roughly 7 miles roundtrip with 1250 feet of elevation change. The cache is less than 2 miles from Baker county's highest peak, Red Mountain (9537').
