Quem pensa numa localidade Alentejana imagina um povo que vive da
exploração agrícola e pecuária. Aljustrel, bem no coração do Baixo
Alentejo, foge um pouco a este cenário e diferenciou-se dos
restantes concelhos alentejanos através da sua tradição mineira,
que remonta à época romana.
Em Aljustrel existem diversas explorações de óxidos de ferro e
manganês representadas por pequenas cortas e galerias abandonadas.
A ocorrência deste tipo de explorações é algo esparsa e está
representada pela existência de hematite (Fe2O3) e pirolusite
(MnO2) claramente associadas a níveis de jaspes, chertes, xistos
borra-de-vinho e xistos siliciosos da Formação do Paraíso do topo
do Complexo Vulcano-Sedimentar. As zonas de oxidação e de
enriquecimento supergénico destes jazigos foram exploradas
essencialmente durante o séc. XIX por pequenas companhias de
carácter familiar. Na região de Aljustrel este tipo de actividade
levou entre 1869 e 1873 à constituição das seguintes concessões
mineiras: abeço do Moinho, Herdade de Monte Ruas, Serra dos
Feitais, Cerro da Cabeça do Homem, Malpique, Nossa Senhora do
Castelo, Moinho Velho, Penedões, Mangancha, Moinho de Vale S. João
e Sto. Antão.
Ricas em filões de pirite, as minas foram exploradas ao longo dos
séculos com o intuito de extrair cobre, enxofre e outros metais. Do
conjunto de explorações, destacam-se as minas de São João do
Deserto e dos Algares, como as mais antigas, e as de Feitais e do
Moinho, as mais recentes.
Aljustrel não é apenas terra de mineiros, existem à sua volta cerca
de 15 moinhos de vento que apesar da grande maioria encontra-se ao
abandono, existe um numa elevação a sul do centro da povoação com
panorâmicas sobre a vila e o seu complexo mineiro que se encontra
em bom estado de conservação – o Moinho do
Maralhas. |

Anyone who thinks about a village from Alentejo imagines farmers
that live from agriculture and livestock. Aljustrel, right between
the heart of the Lower Alentejo, falls off a little bit from this
scenario and differed from other Alentejan counties through its
mining tradition, dating back to Roman times.
In Aljustrel exists several explorations of oxides of iron and
manganese represented by small and short abandoned galleries. The
occurrence of such holdings is somewhat sparse and is represented
with the presence of hematite (Fe2O3) and pirolusite (MnO2) clearly
associated with levels of jaspes, chertes, schists-of-wine lees and
siliceous schists from the Formação do Paraíso from the top of the
Complex Vulcano-Sedimentar. The zones of oxidation and supergetic
enrichment of these deposits have been exploited mainly during the
nineteen century by small family companies. In the Aljustrel region
this type of activity took place between 1869 and 1873 and led to
the establishment of following mining concessions: Cabeço do
Moinho, Herdade de Monte Ruas, Serra dos Feitais, Cerro da Cabeça
do Homem, Malpique, Nossa Senhora do Castelo, Moinho Velho,
Penedões, Mangancha, Moinho de Vale S. João e Sto.
Antão.
The mines, really riches in pyrite lodes, have been exploited over
the centuries in order to extract copper, sulphur and other metals.
From the group of explorations, we highlight the mines of São João
the Deserto and the Algares, as the oldest, and the Feitais and the
Windmill, as the most recent.
Aljustrel is not only land of mining, there are around it about 15
windmills in that despite the vast majority has been abandoned,
there is one in an elevation south of the center of town with
panoramic views of the town and its mining complex which is in good
repair - the Windmill of Maralhas. |
