SideTracked - Martins Heron Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

sandvika: Dr. Beeching's reprieve lasted 18 months but indeed there was no sign of the heron today, just the stash note lying amongst a lot of rather unpleasant litter. The location has declined so much and the cache has been muggled twice, so Dr. Beeching's axe has swung once more. Thanks for visiting [:)]

Geocache Description:

Martins Heron Station

Martins Heron railway station is in Winkfield on the eastern edge of the town of Bracknell in Berkshire, England. It is situated on the London Waterloo-Reading line, between Ascot and Bracknell. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by South West Trains.

The station was opened in October 1988 by British Rail and is one the most recent stations on this largely Victorian line. It is adjacent to a Tesco supermarket, and was built as a precondition for the supermarket itself to be built in conjunction with the Royal County of Berkshire.

One of the other preconditions for the supermarket was that a number of parking spaces must be set aside for railway users. The current controversial policy of £70 parking charges over 2 hours flouts this precondition, however you can park there assured it won't take 2 hours to find the cache!
