Geocache Description:

Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park
Stow Lake
This is a good place to take a walk. Golden Gate Park, San Francisco's largest, is bigger than New York’s Central Park. About 3 miles long and 1/2-mile wide it covers 1,013 acres. GGP has over one million trees, nine lakes, several fly casting pools and a lily pond within its borders. Strybing Arboretum and Botanical Garden, the Conservatory of Flowers and several museums are among its many attractions.

Stow Lake encircles Strawberry Hill in a beautiful, secluded area of Golden Gate Park. The most popular activities in Stow Lake are to rent paddle boats or kayaks, or to take a bike ride around its beautiful shore. Strawberry Hill, rising from the center of the lake, is accessible either by boat or by the beautiful Roman Bridge where you will walk by a traditional Chinese platform to get an excellent view of the massive waterfall running from the hill into the lake. Although there is plenty to see in Golden Gate Park, this is not something that you want to miss. With a plethora of herons, seagulls, exotic flowers, and other wildlife, Stow Lake and Strawberry Hill is one of the most visually arresting areas of San Francisco. Stow Lake was completed in 1893 as was the Rustic Bridge shown below, which is used to access Strawberry Hill.
