Prairie Chichén
Itzá
Your next caching adventure takes place beside the Pembiña river in
the Albertican Peninsula. You are charged with the task of
finding the lost temple of the "Ferro-God" CaNoRa.
Prairie Chichén Itzá is nestled in a deep canyon, overgrown
by the surrounding jungle. You must brave the raging waters and
make your sacrifice to CaNoRa. If your offering pleases
him, his treasure is yours!
The trail has many obstacles and foremost is the river
itself. Too deep to be waded, two swift to ford.
The banks are steep, count those contour lines! It is not
accessable from the West. Your best choice is to join the
inflatable armada.
Make your departure from the public beach, nestled in the quiet of
the inner river bend. Soon the river straightens, hastens, and away
you will drift. Three hundred meters or so into your drift,
you will see the gateway to Prairie Chichén Itzá, pull out
just after the minor rapids and move through the jungle to make
your find. The final will have you away from the
Flotilla of Muggles, where you can make your offering in
solitude.
About
this
Cache:
You will have to cross the Pembina
river to access this geocache, there is no access from the
WEST so Forgettabout it! To the West of the cache is a vertical
cliff! Proper access is through Pembina River Provincal Park. There
is no fee for Day use.
The river is mild and there are
sometimes hundreds of people swimming in it on weekends. However,
it is a river and is
inherently dangerous. The cache is located just after a
small rapid that is impossible to wade through, you will get swept
a small ways downstream.
Any inflatable will make this easy.
There are even rental tubes and a shuttle service available
in Entwistle.
You will be exposed to a short but steep, thick bushwack that will
require Sandals preferably Crocs.
The canyon is amazing and the provincal park is a great picnic
destination, bring the family and make a daytrip out of it.
This is not an extreme adventure, I used an airmattress to hide
this. You will easily succeed as long as you are not afraid
to get wet.
The final location is really worth the effort, I wanted to place a
geocache that required a swim/wade, this one provides all that,
with an amazing hide.
The hide is muggleproof as is, so rehide it well! It is
placed right at the spot you will make your sacrifice at!!
Due to the river I would not bring a child under age 7 to the
final without a life jacket. Life Jackets for any children under
that age or non swimmer is advisable. This is not a
particularly dangerous river, but it is moving water, and not a
pool!!! Cache safe and enjoy this amazing find.
Remember to practice safe GPS. Bag it before you go on the
river!
This geocache is NOT Winter Friendly due to unstable ice
conditions. Besides the Mayan theme will be lost to the snow.
