Border Crossings # 3 - Surrey / Hampshire Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Uncle E: It was actually 11 years ago to the day, when I first placed this cache and since then, there have been almost 80 finds, but unfortunately, back in 2014, the path which ran next to the river was diverted away from the river and since then, there have only been 6 attempts to find this cache (4 finds and 2 DNFs). In addition to that, the location of the cache has become overgrown.

Those who have placed caches will know that it takes a reasonable amount of effort to set caches and therefore, I have always been reluctant to archive any caches that I have set, choosing to maintain or replace them when required, however, in light of the above, with regret, I think that it is time to archive this one.

Many thanks to those who have visited this cache and enjoyed the walk and many thanks for your comments.

Geocache Description:

This is the third cache in my Border Crossings series.

The other caches in this series are …

Border Crossings # 1 - Surrey / Berkshire

Border Crossings # 2 - Berkshire / Hampshire (now archived)

Border Crossings # 4 - Berkshire / Oxfordshire

Border Crossings # 5 - Oxfordshire / Berkshire

This multi-cache starts in Surrey, takes you across the Surrey / Hampshire border, along the Blackwater Valley Path and finishes in Hampshire.

When I first placed this cache in August 2008, the path run next to the river, however, in 2014, the path was diverted away from the river. More information on this can be found on the Blackwater Valley Countryside website (visit link). This means that access to the original locations for a number of the clues is no longer possible and so I have updated the clues.

The distance from North Camp station to the cache and back, is just over a mile and a half.

The co-ordinates above, are not for the cache, but for a car park, which can be used if there are no parking spaces available close to the station.

The first clues can be found at …

N 51 16.553 W 000 43.881

… where there is a notice board. Trains for Redhill go from platform A and that trains for Reading go from platform B.

The next clues can be found at …

N 51 16.114 W 000 44.059

… where there is an orange plaque. On this plaque, G = the number of letter Ns plus the number of letter Ps, H = the number of letter Zs and J = the number of letter Ss.

The final clues can be found at …

N 51 16.018 W 000 43.900

… where there is a notice board that states that the length of the Blackwater Valley Path is CD miles and that the work to restore the site started in 19KL. The telephone number at the bottom of the notice board is 01252 331E5F.

The location of the cache – which is a small container in a camouflage bag - can be found by substituting the letters in the following code, for the numbers revealed by the answers to the clues.

N 51 16.(E-F)(H+J)(B+G) W 000 43.(A+K)(L)(D-C)
