Geocache Description:

A traditional cache hidden in beautiful scenic surroundings

The Castle and outer defences were built by the O'Donoghue Ross Chieftains during the 15th century. The barracks alongside dates from the mid 18th century. Now restored, the castle houses a fine collection of 16th and 17th century oak furniture.

Park at the RossCastle Car Park and head towards the boats. It is a great photograhic opportunity, especially on a sunny day. If you keep on the path up to the end of the boats, you will come to another great view. Then when you can really go no further, unless you can walk on water, you might decide to look around for the cache.

Yes it is true that the area was flooded, but it didn't effect the integrity of the cache at all. But getting to the spot will require wellington boots until the waters subside.
There are a few items in the cache:

Some new items placed in the new cache include a Nokia phone battery, a small Teddy bear, a toy car.

To all those swamped at the idea of reaching the cache. I recently checked the stability of the cache and it seems to survive most flood waters due to its height above sea level. I also discovered that there is an alternative route to and from the cache site. However I was only walking back from the site trying to find my way and ran out of time. Yet Im sure that if someone was to take one of the routes up by the Tin Mine, or towards the lakes, he/she would find that if they took a detour off to the left, they might be able to come down hill towards the site. Therefore, until waypoints are added, the only visible waypoint I can think of is what looks to be what looks like a place for BMX jumps. Hope this works as an alternate route. Thanks to all who tried to find it. The log book has recently been 'temporarily' updated. It is hard to get a suitable notepad for this size of cache. But I am on the lookout.
