The resting area:
Farangi Vederon in greek and also called Gerani Gorge. The gorge runs seaward from Frantzeskiana Metochia to Gerani by way of Prines (Vederi), a total distance of 7km. Since there is no path, the route is only recommended for experienced walkers. But some places in the gorge can be reached easily. There is a resting area down from Gerani village, where the cache is placed.
Gerani is situated about 5-6 km west of Rethymno. Drive the new National road and take off where signmarked for Gerani. Drive south along a hotel and than take to the left in the bend (N35 20.985, E24 24.214 ) signposted to Fratz. Metohia, se also picture.
There are two alternatives to reach the cache:
1. Farmers road from point N35 21.161 E24 24.124. It is possible to drive down and park in the resting area, but the farmers can come in a hurry.It is also possible to park where the dirt road take off and walk down the road.
2. Follow the road and park the car near a small house and a portal with Farangi Vederon in Greek ( N35 20.935, E24 24.239) where the stairs start down to the gorge and the resting place. It is a short walk down to the gorge and the resting place, but narrow and with many bushes and branches around. On the top of the stairs you can see against Vederi on the other side of the gorge.
Water place:
In the resting area there is a sitting group and a waterplace.
Coordinates for the cache are very poor, can be 15-20 meters off, but the hint and the spoiler should give enough info. The cache is a small Curver box (see photo) wrapped in a plastic bag.
We recommend a visit to Gerani village. By the sea there is a good taverna, a chapel, a small bathing place and another cache: GC2HPYW Panagia i Kamariani. The Gerani Cave just above the sea taverna and a new local road passing a little north of the highway, is closed. The coordinates for the entrance is N35 21.525, E24 24.467.
