Je to jediny zastupce jehlicnanu, ktery byl uznan za pamatny strom. Proc? Protoze se jedna o majestatni typ s huste zachvojenou pyramidalni korunou, soliter ve volnem prostoru mimoradneho vzrustu, s minimalnim ubytkem jehlici, mimoradnych genetickych kvalit. Cerpa vlahu a ziviny z priznivych jilovitych vodonosnych vrstev na miste byvale cihelny. Zvlastnosti tohoto pamatneho stromu je individualni ochranne pasmo (prostor, na kterem je vyloucena jakakoliv cinnost, ktera by mohla poskozovat, nicit ci rusit v prirozenem vyvoji dany pamatny strom) s rozlohou 350 m2. Nad prirozenou reprodukci jeho semenacku bdi Lesnicka fakulta MZLU.
Smrk byl vyhlasen Pamatnym stromem 10.04.2000 a byl zapsan do Registru pamatnych stromu vedeneho Agenturou ochrany prirody a krajiny Ceske republiky.

At the foot of a grassy hill there is a beautiful spruce growing. It is the only representative of conifers that has been recognized a momentous tree. It does not mean, however, there are no rare trees in Brno, but they are not given enough attention. In spite of that many of them are worth our attention. Let us be grateful for this beautiful and sound tree that has been placed under the national protection.
This tree has given his name to a civil association that builds a small park for the moments of rest here. This gives a hope that the spruce will keep growing to reach a great age in good health.
Common spruce (Picea abies), that formerly spread out from Scandinavia to the Balkans in the heights over 800 m and now thanks to cultivation of forets it has acclimatized almost everywhere. It is sensitive to the air pollution.
