Geocache Description:

Get Your Kicks On Route 66
Enjoy your drive down the Mother Road.

The intent of this series is to point out
historic or unique places along old route 66 between IL and CA. It
is NOT meant to be a power trail as caches may be 50 miles or more
apart. Stop and enjoy these sights along the way.

Welcome to the Route 66 landmark where I both started and ended my Route 66 vacation. It was wonderful to stay in the old motels, eat at the old restaurants, and meet many colorful people along the way. It was, and still is, one of my favorite vacations of all time! You are looking for a keyholder.

Paraphrasing from "Searching for 66" by Tom Teague, a must-have if you are trying to drive the Route (as there are driving directions in the back), the idea for Cozy Dogs was developed by Ed Waldmire, who was drafted in 1945 and was on a weekend trip from the Amarillo Air Force Base. He found a little Oklahoma cafe that was making hotdogs in a waffle iron very slowly. Ed wanted to speed up the process and came up with the current version of the Cozy Dog. At the 1946 Illinois State Fair, Ed Waldmire formally introduced the Cozy Dog and the rest is history!!
