The first choose your own adventure cache started back in Fort Collins, Colorado. You can read about it here, GCV1E1

PLEASE NOTE, THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS VERY IMPORTANT TO FINDING THE FINAL CACHE. YOU WILL NEED THIS TO FIND THE FINAL. YOU WILL UNDERSTAND AFTER YOU FIND THE FIRST WAYPOINT.

I have chosen eight books from different genres. Depending on what kind of book you choose will depend on how you find the cache. You only need to choose one book to find the cache. However, in the spirit of a choose your own adventure, THERE WILL BE DEAD ENDS!!! Fear not, you will still find the cache with some perseverance. In the event that the book you choose is checked out just move to another book.

Pick your favorite genre of books and find the book. If it is gone, pick another book. The directions for each book are listed below. Typically you will need to find the chapter numbers I select and do some math to get the call number for the cache. The cache has a four-digit call number and it is filed under the author code COV in the non-fiction section. Good luck and one last note, I have read almost every one of these books and highly recommend all of them in case you like reading. So without delay, start your adventure!!!

Horror

Many consider Stephen King to be the master of horror. I have read nearly all of his books and I concur with this statement. The book you are seeking is SKELETON CREW BY STEPHEN KING. This is a collection of short stories and some of his best are right here for you to read.
You must find the contents page, this is where your choice begins. Each short story has a name followed by the page number. Find the page numbers for the two short stories listed then follow the direction. Your choices are as follows.

1. THE MIST + THE MAN WHO WOULD NOT SHAKE HANDS= ADD THE PAGE NUMBERS TOGETHER THEN SUBTRACT 200.5. THE TOTAL WILL TAKE YOU TO THE CACHE OR A DEAD END!

2. MRS. TODD’S SHORTCUT + THE MONKEY= ADD THE PAGE NUMBERS TOGETHER THEN SUBTRACT 200.5. THE TOTAL WILL TAKE YOU TO THE CACHE OR A DEAD END!

3. WORD PROCESSOR OF THE GODS + THE REAPER’S IMAGE= ADD THE PAGE NUMBERS TOGETHER THEN SUBTRACT 400.5. THE TOTAL WILL TAKE YOU TO THE CACHE OR A DEAD END!

Science Fiction

Easily the best twist to a plot I have ever read is in this book. This book is on my top ten favorite books of all time. You have to read this book even if you are not a big fan of sci-fi. You are looking for ENDER’S GAME by ORSON SCOTT CARD.
Find the contents page, this is where your adventure begins. Each chapter has a name followed by the page number. Find the page numbers for the chapters listed then follow the directions.

2. DRAGON – THIRD= SUBTRACT EXACTLY AS SHOWN THEN ADD .5. THE TOTAL WILL TAKE YOU TO THE CACHE OR A DEAD END!

CLASSICS

My senior high school teacher made us read classics the entire year. I thought they would be a drag but instead I loved every book I read. This book was one of my favorites. You are looking for THE THREE MUSKETEERS BY ALEXANDRE DUMAS.
The particular copy that the library owns is a hardcover with illustrations. Find the contents page and then after that find the illustrations contents page. Each illustration has a name followed by a page number. For this adventure, you will need to find the pictures then answer some questions about the pictures.

FANTASY

it is with great sadness that the author of this amazing saga has passed. He was unable to finish the 12th and final book, but his notes were preserved and another author will finish the book. If you enjoy epic stories on the scale of THE LORD OF THE RINGS, then this book is for you. You are looking for NEW SPRING THE NOVEL BY ROBERT JORDON. This book is actually the prequel to the WHEEL OF TIME SAGA but if you are going tackle this whole series, you will want to read this book.
Find the contents page. On the left hand side of the page there are the chapter numbers followed by the chapter name and then on the right is the page number. For this adventure, you must find the CHAPTER NUMBER that correlates with the chapter name.

ROMANCE

Nicholas Sparks has been making a name for himself recently with at least two books made into movies. I have not read this book but I did see the movie and my wife read the book and recommends it. You are looking for THE NOTEBOOK BY NICHOLAS SPARKS.
Your adventure begins by finding the copyright page. This is typically one of the first pages of the book, before contents and all that. Every book has this page.

1. Find the original copyright for this book. This will be the first date listed. DIVIDE THE COPYRIGHT BY 16. SUBTRACT 15.25 FROM THE SUM. THE TOTAL WILL TAKE YOU TO THE CACHE OR A DEAD END!

MYSTERY

There has been no equal to the mastery of mystery than Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes has always fascinated people with his wit and brilliance. And let us not forget his faithful sidekick DR. Watson. You are looking for THE CLASSIC ILLUSTRATED SHERLOCK HOLMES BY SIR ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE. No mystery cache would be complete without a mystery book.

1. How many pages does this book have? TAKE THE NUMBER OF PAGES AND DIVIDE BY 100. NOW ADD 100 TO THE SUM. THE TOTAL WILL TAKE YOU TO THE CACHE OR A DEAD END!

2. Where does Sherlock Holmes reside? The name is on the cover of the book, two words. How many letters are there total in the name? TAKE THE TOTAL NUMBER OF LETTERS AND MULTIPLY BY 10. SUBTRACT .5 FROM THE SUM. THE TOTAL WILL TAKE YOU TO THE CACHE OR A DEAD END!

JUVENILE FICTION

The list of books would not be complete without one of the most famous young adult books written to date. I have read the entire series and I must say it turned out to be pretty darn good. You are looking for none other than HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE BY J.K. ROWLING. This adventure will require just a itsy bitsy amount of reading.

1. chapter 5, page 66. There is a list of required garments for the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. ADD THE AMOUNT OF REQUIRED GARMENTS TOGETHER. ADD 100 TO THE SUM. THE TOTAL WILL TAKE YOU TO THE CACHE OR A DEAD END!

2. Chapter 5, page 67. There is a list of Other Equipment that Harry needs. ADD THE AMOUNT OF REQUIRED ITEMS TOGETHER. ADD 100.5 TO THE SUM. THE TOTAL WILL TAKE YOU TO THE CACHE OR A DEAD END!

3. Where does harry live? You can find out on the very first page of chapter one. His address is #_ Pivet drive. Take the number and add 105.5. THE TOTAL WILL TAKE YOU TO THE CACHE OR A DEAD END!

CHILDREN

My second grade teacher introduced this book to me and I have always loved the book. I cannot wait to give it to my kids so that they may solve the mystery of the missing feast. This is a great book for people of all ages and I recommend it to anyone. You are looking for THE ELEVENTH HOUR BY GRAEME BASE.

1. Find the page where the animals are playing cards. Look at the cards that the swan is holding. ADD THE TOTAL OF THE CARDS SHOWN, ACE COUNTING AS 1. ADD 100.5 TO THE SUM. THE TOTAL WILL TAKE YOU TO THE CACHE OR A DEAD END!

2. Find the page where the animals are playing snakes and ladders. Around the border of the page you will see pairs of dice. On the top middle pair of dice, what total is showing? TAKE THAT NUMBER AND MULTIPLY BY 10. SUBTRACT .5 FROM THE SUM. THE TOTAL WILL TAKE YOU TO THE CACHE OR A DEAD END!

If you have made it this far, I hope you are not so scared you decide not to do the cache. Remember, you only need to pick one book to find the cache, and if you pick the right challenge, you could find the cache on the first try. I hope everyone enjoys this cache. I did spend a lot of time putting this together so please be respectful of the cache. I also made the cache container and had the artwork done by a friend. Good luck and cache on!
