(The description below if from the original listing (2001). I've
left it intact for posterity. You don't need to read it to find the
cache.) FLYING SAUCERS is a theme/combo cache and is our first. It
could also be called SON OF MONKEY MADNESS, since it was inspired
by its neighbor. The theme here is disc golf.
In Wickham Park, and in hundreds of locations worldwide, there
is an 18-hole disc golf course. Disc golf plays like golf, but you
use a flying disc (like a frisbee, but smaller and heavier) instead
of a ball and a chain basket instead of a hole. There are rarely
any greens fees, no shirt or shoes required and most disc golfers
consider a cold six-pack standard equipment.
In this original cache, there were several golf discs. The
ranger station near the entrance of the park can also loan discs.
For more info on disc golf, check out http://www.pdga.com. If you geocache,
you're already looking for an excuse for a long walk in the woods,
and know how to find things in the bushes, so you're poised to be a
top-notch disc golfer (and the top pros pull down nearly five
figures!). Harrkev created a very cool GPS map of the course -
scroll down to his log to get it - Thanks, Harrkev!
If you're not down with disc golf, there are other goodies. As
of August 2003, I can't keep up with demand for discs and won't
restock them. If you're really need to borrow a disc, email me, and
I'll hook you up. The cache is in a square tupperware with a white
lid stashed in the palmettos.
If you're not used to this type of terrain, you'd better wear
long pants and take the hint with you. Enjoy.
