[PT] A Serra da Estrela é rica em paisagens e locais especiais. A localização desta cache é um desses locais, uma zona onde encontramos uma bela mancha de pinheiros-silvestres ou pinheiros-de-casquinha, cujo nome científico é Pinus Sylvestris L.

O Pinus Sylvestris L. é uma das duas espécies do género Pinus que os botânicos não têm dúvidas em classificar como autóctones no território continental português, sendo a outra o pinheiro-manso (Pinus pinea L.).

Já a espécie de pinheiro mais conhecida em Portugal, o pinheiro-bravo (Pinus Pinaster Aiton), continua a não ser consensual entre os especialistas se a mesma será autóctone em Portugal.

De acordo com estudos científicos, mais especificamente com base em resultados de análises polínicas, a parte superior da Serra da Estrela terá estado coberta por florestas de pinheiro-silvestre (Pinus sylvestris L.) , vidoeiro (Betula sp.) e teixo (Taxus baccata L.), após o recuo dos glaciares do último período glaciar Wurmiano. No entanto, há cerca de 10.000 anos atrás, esta espécie terá desaparecido da Serra da Estrela, tal como refere Jan Jansen (Guia Geobotânico da Serra da Estrela), pelo que os que existem actualmente na Serra da Estrela pertencem a variedades não-autóctones, as quais terão sido introduzidas pelos Serviços Florestais do Estado.

Actualmente, existem alguns indícios de que a espécie se está a tornar subespontânea, ou seja, que a mesma se estará a propagar sem intervenção directa do ser humano.

The Serra da Estrela is full of special landscapes and places. The location of this cache is one of those places, an area where we can find a beatiful spot of Pinus Sylvestris L.

Pinus Sylvestris L. it´s one of two species of pine that botanists have no doubt in classify as indigenous in the continental Portugal. The other one is the Pinus pinea L.

The best known species of pine in Portugal, the rough-pine (Pinus Pinaster Aiton), is still not consensus among experts, whether it is indigenous in Portugal.

According to scientific studies, more specifically based on results of pollen analyses, the top of Serra da Estrela, have been covered by forests of Pinus sylvestris L., Betula sp. and Taxus baccata L., after the retreat of the glaciers of the last glacial period.

However, at about 10.000 years ago, this specie disappeared from Serra da Estrela, so that there are currently in the Serra da Estrela belong to non-indigenous varieties, which have been introduced by the State Forestry Services.

Currently, there are some indications that the specie it´s spreading without human direct intervention.

[PT] O objectivo desta cache é dar conhecer uma mancha de pinheiros-silvestres na Serra da Estrela a qual tem tanto de belo quer no Verão, em que podemos encontrar as pequenas pinhas que são habitualmente levadas como recordação, quer no Inverno, quando tudo está coberto de neve.

[EN] The purpose of this cache is to let you know a pine-wood of Pinus Sylvestris in Serra da Estrela which is as beautiful in summer, where we can find small pine-cones that are usually taken as a souvenir, as in winter, when everything is covered with snow.
