Geocache Description:

Located at upstream of Mértola, the water mills of Mértola, at the Guadiana river, toke advantage, for centuries, of the currents from north to transform the grain into flour. After losing its primary role they have become a site of leisure, and the last point of the Guadiana from the influence of the tide.
Although it is considered as estuary the area between the mouth in Vila Real de Santo Antonio and Pomarão, the dam of Azenhas of Mértola is the last place where the Guadiana clearly feel the effect of the tides of the Atlantic.
This is a place to rest for election and keep it as such. If bathing in the Guadiana give full attention to its current especially if you have children with you.
