Geocache Description:

Bowers Rock State Park, some walking required.

Another new place to visit that I stumbled upon google earth caching. After living in Albany for 8 years and visiting every park and public place (so I thought) I saw this place on a map and had to check it out.
Since cachers have reported private property signs, no trespassing signs, and some of the neighboring land owners are not pleased with sharing this particular parcel of public land therefor I recommend access via the river. You can cross with a boat from Hyak park just across from the area. Maps show this park off Bryant Way. Bowers Rock State Park is a chunk off land surrounded by private property on the Willamette river. Access the cache by water by locating the few trails that exist from the waters edge. I arrived by boat to 44' 38.018N by 123' 09.276, climbed up the steep bank, and hiked into the park along the field. The cache is just off the main road inside the park.

The container has been replaced due to high water and now requires some monkey business to reach it. I highly advise you bring a friend and proceed with caution.

After you locate it, be sure to walk to the end of the trail to see where it leads. This cache has room for more, but I seeded it with a few handy items like a map of the area, a ruler, some exra new AA batteries in case yours are dead when you get here, and a neck chain & tag thingy.

To access by land the 1st issue is the lack of public parking. The park boundary begins at the end of Cherry LN where Bryant Drive turns south changing to Bryant way, Cherry Lane continues due west, but has private drive signs posted (inaccurately) Since there is no parking on Cherry Lane, biking or hiking from the highway would be required. Some cachers report problems with the neighbors, they don't sound very excited about this public land being used by the public. Google Map makes it appear that Bryant drive SW enters into the park, but sadly this road is closed as well, and this road is marked private.

Below are some additional links, and information, please help to get this public land more accessible for public use! I spoke with the range in charge, his name is Scott, and I was welcomed to contact him with future concerns. If you wish to report any criminal activity, vandalism, or the like, private message me and I will give you his number.
