Geocache Description:

You are looking for a 1 litre clip-lock box near St Mary Magdalene Church in Baunton. It is not wheel-chair accessible. Room for TBs, swaps and coins.

St Mary Magdalene, Baunton is one of four parishes making up the United Benefice of Stratton, North Cerney, Bagendon and Baunton, to which I have a family connection. Each parish has, or will shortly have, its own cache. They can be done individually or on a circular walk, of approximtely 8 miles (I think).

Baunton is another one of the villages on the River Churn (furtherst upstream tribrutary of the mighty Thames) that flows through the valley. It is an intriguing mix of cream limestone cottages and newer builds. The road on which the church is situated is probably the orignal track along which the wool moved down the valley from upstream villages such as North Cerney.

The church here is small, dating from Norman times. It contains a 14th century wall-painting of St. Christopher striding through a stream carrying the Christ-child, while ships, fishes & a mermaid swim around his legs. 15th century embroidered altar frontal. The church is open daily, dawn until dusk. Sunday services typically 10 a.m.

The cache should be easy enough to find and is generally not overlooked - best retrieved from the side nearest the fields and not the road; not only is it not overlooked on this side, buy easier to get to.
