Geocache Description:

This is part of the Church Micro cache series originally started by Sadexploration.

A simple offset cache where the coordinates will take you to a place where you will get the information you require to find the cache.

This will take you to the usual micro cache (35mm Film Case) which contains only a log book at the time of publishing. You need to bring your own pen or pencil.

St. John's Church, Coolhurst

St. John's church, Coolhurst [also known as the 'forest church'] is a lovely old church set in extensive grounds, originally built in 1839 just within the modern Lower Beeding parish.

It is still a working church [Church of England] with Holy Communion 8.30am each sunday and Evensong services at 3.30pm every 2nd sunday in the month.

On the gravestone on the left of the cross [see picture below] at the co-ords above [It's the grave marker of Sir William D. Scrase Dickins], you will find the following information, the cache is NOT here at the church, you will need to acquire the following data to work out the real co-ordinates for the cache itself:

Day Month and Year of his birth and Day Month and Year of his death.

You need to apply the following data to find the final cache co-ordinates.

A = The first digit of day of his birth
B = The second digit of day of his death
C = The month of his birth (as a single digit)
D = The month of his death (as a single digit)
E = The first digit of the year of his death
F = The second digit of the year of his birth
G = The third digit of the year of his birth
H = The fourth digit of the year of his death

The actual cache (which is a short walk away) can be found at:

N 51 03.(B-C)(F+E)(D+G-B)
W 000 17.(D-C)(F-H+A)(A*G)

[* = multiply, as in 5 multiplied by 2 equals 10]

Please have respect for the church, it's grounds and gravestones and those at rest here. At the time of placing there were dozens of wild orchids in bloom in the church grounds. I took a picture of some of them which can be found in the gallery.

Nearest parking is at the front of the church itself which is on Hammerpond Road, Coolhurst, West Sussex.

Link to map: here.

Where the original co-ords should take you.

If any body would like to expand this series, then please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
