Geocache Description:

this is a virtual cache that leads you to a historic site in downtown miami

the freedom tower is one of the few remaining historic sites in miami-dade county. it seems like every time you turn around a historic building has been torn down here in dade. the freedom tower originally started as the home of the miami news in the 1920's. the paper used it for about 30 years and then moved out. during the 60's it was the point of reception for cubans coming over on freedom flights fleeing from castro's regime. inmigration ran operations from that building during that time and many cubans came to associate it with the new found freedom offered to them by the united states.

the building has undergone a heavy restoration and shows its splendor. for those visiting miami from out of town this cache is a good point to visit since it puts you across the street from bayside marketplace which is an open air mall right next to the bay. "finding" this virtual on an online map does not constitute a real find. if your logging looks questionable, like being in two states at once, it will be deleted.
