Geocache Description:

The cache is in the vicinity of the monument in a disguised tubular container measuring ca 50mm (2inches) in diameter and ca 250mm (10 inches) long.

Hanover have its origins when a local farmer with the name Gert Gous agreed in 1856 to sell his farm “Petrusvalei” of 8565 hectare (21 165 Acres or 33 square miles), and only if the new town will be named after his ancestral origin Hannover in Germany. An agreement was reached but the one “n” was unfortunately left out of the name. The town was founded in 1861.
The cache is situated on the hillock to the west of the town named “Trapkoppie” (Stairs Knoll). The entrance to the Knoll is at a gate at S31 04.078 E24 26.352. At the gate is a granite stone embedded in the wall with a date 1876 on it. Follow the pathway to the top where you will find a stone monument. The monument is erected in memory of the “First Civil Commissioner and resident Magistrate in Hanover” named Charles Richard Beere deceased on 9 November 1881.
The cache contains a logbook, pencil and sharpener.
Trade items is a laser engraved glass cube depicting Africa’s big five, a mask pendant and a key ring LED light.
