Geocache Description:

Virtual cache that marks the location of the Spiral Jetty

This cache is on Rozel Point which is on the north arm of the Great Salt Lake. The water in the north arm is about 25% salt which is about eight times saltier that the ocean. The water contains algae which gives the water a redish hue which gives it a surreal look. The cache marks the Spiral Jetty, a large earthwork (large land art) created by Robert Smithson in 1970.

After visiting this cache please report the condition of the jetty, if it is visible, and any experiences that you had searching for it.

Note: The top of this jetty is reported to be at elevation 4197 feet. As of 9/3/2001 the lake was at elevation 4199.3 feet. Please visit the USGS to check the current level of the north arm of the GSL.

Have fun!
