Geocache Description:

This is number 268 in the ‘Church Micro’ series- St.Mary the virgin-Great Chart.

The village of Great Chart is first recorded in history as 'Selebertes Cert',and later in the mediaval times as 'Great Chart'.

There was no Known church at Great Chart before the eleventh century, but a norman church was built soon after.
This norman church was rebuilt in the fourteeth century but was badly damaged in the mid fithteenth century by a fire.
Rector James Goldwell (later to become the bishop of Norwich) restored the church to its present proportions,it was during this time that some roman
bricks were incoporated into the rebuilding of the church from an old roman road that used to run nearby.

The tower dates from the fourteenth century but the belfry is fifteenth century with parts of it being dated to the late 1700s,
and the church tower clock dates from 1874 and the paths leading upto the church are made from local Bethersden marble.

This is my first cache so I hope all go's to plan!

Many thanks go to Lucylocket10 for all her help and advise ,Sadexploration for running and coordinating the church micro series
and Siliconwombat for placing his 'spawn of cache' cache from where this micro was spawned!

If anybody would like to expand the Church Micro series please do,
we would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names,
to avoid duplication.

Goodluck and happy caching!-M3HXE.
