Geocache Description:

St. Nicholas

A new cache to replace the original church micro which WW's had to archive.

This is a fine example of a complete Norman church, built in about 1140 AD. Original frescoes painted in red ochre have been uncovered, the latest in 1967 and this one is reckoned to date from when the church was originally built. Queen Elizabeth 1 used to visit her favourite lady in waiting who lived at Pyrford Place. It is generally considered that the Queen would have worshipped in the Church of St. Nicholas.

A simple offset cache the initial coordinates will take you to a place where you will get some info you require.

Inside the porch you will find a row of ten pictures giving a brief history of the church. Underneath each picture is some descriptive text. Labelling the pictures from left to right as A-K (omitting I), take the first letter of the descriptive text of that picture and use its letter value in the alphabet (e..g. A=1, B=2, J=10, Z=26) and assign that to the label.

The cache can then be found at:
N51 19.(B-E)((J-A)/2)H W000 30.F(G-K)C

If anybody would like to expand this series please do, we would just ask that you could let sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
