Geocache Description:

Number 261 in the ‘Church Micro’ series.

This is one of a set of three caches that lead to a bonus cache, GC1CX0C - Soay Far Soay Good. Two parts of the co-ordinates can be found in the lid of each cache container.

There is plenty of roadside parking in front of the church.

Parish church of St. Mary & St. Peter, Pett
Replacing an earlier church, this building was erected in 1864 in the Decorated style on the site of an earlier church. The north west porch extends upwards to an unusual octagonal tower.

The interior contains a monument, attributed to Westmacott, commemorating Cordelia Sayer, who was at one time engaged to Edward Milward (b. 1756), Mayor of Hastings.

There is a wooden grave board at the back of the churchyard, it reads "Henry Urling Whelpton 1860 - 1935, with Edith Beatrice his wife, 1874 - 1952. Priest R.I.P.". There are some very old tombstones at the front of the church but unfortunately none of them are legible.

The cache is a camouflaged 35mm film canister with a micro certificate for the First to Find. Note: Please do not search amongst the graves, the cache is not within the churchyard.

If anybody would like to expand the Church Micro series please do, we would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first, so they can keep track of the Church numbers and names, to avoid duplication.
