Geocache Description:

If you don’t read anything else here read the *PLEASE NOTE* section below.

I don’t like planting caches just anywhere. If you’ve visited my other hides, you have experienced history and found often-ignored places that are well worth the trip. This is no different. Even some of the locals who are aware of this spot have not visited it. This hide will take geocaching in downtown Astoria to new heights.

I’m working on a series of caches that will involve means of conveyance not normally unitized by geocachers during their hunts. Cars, bicycles and the good old feet do work well, but for this one let’s throw in an elevator. And unlike my "Through the Darkness" cache where it is recommended that you bring your own flashlight, in this case the elevator will be provided so you don’t need to bring your own.

I believe I’m including much more information than is needed to find this cache, but the Hotel was gracious enough to allow the hide, so I want to expedite the find rather than having people exploring throughout the building and making a scene. So here goes.

Directions: Enter the Hotel and proceed to the elevator. Maybe even smile and wave at the desk person. If it would make you more comfortable you can mention to them (if they are not busy) that you are hunting for the cache, but it shouldn’t be necessary. Take the elevator to the 5th floor. When there, go to the left and up 17 steps. If the stairs don’t take you to the roof then you got off the elevator early. Proceed through the door on your right after the brief stair climb. Go outside and start hunting.

The container is a green cylinder about 5 inches in diameter. It is almost 20 inches long so if you have long narrow dollar store junk, this is the cache for it. Since this is such a quick hit, spend some time with Himilecyclist’s Astoria Riverfront Photo Mystery cache.

*PLEASE NOTE*
--Make your visit at a reasonable time, maybe between 8:00am and 8:00pm. I wouldn’t recommend Hotel caching at 2:00am unless you are a guest.
--The cache can be easily reached without leaving the rooftop platform. Do not climb down onto the roof. Stay inside the handrails.
--Occasionally the rooftop garden is used for parties, weddings and other gatherings. Look for signs that this might be going on as you approach the roof and if there is an event, exit discretely.
--Above all, relax and enjoy the view above all!!
