Please read the
description below for logging
requirements.
Numbers. We are fascinated by them. We love to celebrate
milestones and goals met of various numbers but numbers are not
everything. Creating Earth Art can be a great way to
"relax" and gives us a sense of accomplishment.
The Challenge is to create a virtual "connect the dots" art image on Earth
with the caches that you have found. The image can be of any
readily recognizable object. Some examples include:
Smiley Face, Star, Dog, Stick Figure, Pine Tree, the possibilities
are endless!!
Below are a few additional
stipulations:
-
FTF will be for the first cacher to POST a valid picture
of their artwork.
-
You must utilize a minimum of 15 caches as the
"dots" in your artwork.
-
In an attempt to even out the playing field a little...
At least seven ( 7) of your "dots" must be
for caches found on or after 8/1/08.
-
The caches used can be of any type.
-
Use only the "Posted" coordinates for Mystery and Multi
caches. Use of puzzle solutions or subsequent stages of multi
stages will not be permitted as it will give away the cache
location.
-
The caches utilized must be active at the time of
claiming your find. (With the exception of Event & CITO caches,
they can be archived but must have been held on or after the date
of 8/1/08)
-
You can use caches found anywhere in the world. The
scope of your art project is only limited to the size of the
globe.
To complete this Challenge cache, do the
following:
-
First and foremost, you must locate and sign the log for
the container for this challenge once you have completed your Earth
Art.
-
Keeping in mind the requirements stated above, locate
your Artwork and share it with the world by creating a screenshot
of your project. (Basic Sample Directions below) Post
this picture with your log. There will be many ways to obtain
this artwork to post. Google Earth, the GC Map, literally
taking a map and marking dots on it, whatever works to document
your artwork.
-
List the caches that you used in your artwork including
the GC# in your log. Mark the ones that you found for your
image after 8/1/08. This will help others see where on Earth
your artwork is located.
-
Specify what you image is supposed to be as some of these
may be a little abstract.
How to create a screenshot of your
artwork:
-
GSAK & Google Earth: Utilizing an export macro
from GSAK send your list of finds to Google Earth. You can
add your "connect the dots" line using the "Add Path"
function. From there select from the menu File/Save/Save
Image... to save a jpg file to your computer. You should open
the file using a photo editor and downsize it to about 500 pixels
wide before uploading with your log. The default file is
usually pretty big.
-
Screen shot method: Useful with the Geocaching
Map. Open your map and center your artwork on the
screen. Each of your found caches should be a little Smiley
face. Hold the "Ctrl" key and press the "PrtScr" key on your
keyboard. This will create a screenshot copy in your
computers memory or clipboard. Open any of a multitude of
image editors and create a new picture file. In your picture
editor select "Paste" or use the shortcut "Ctrl and V" to paste the
image to the editor. Crop and resize the image as necessary,
add your "Connect the dot" lines and save. Upload to the file
to your log.
